Karwachauth Celebrations
The Karwa Chauth fast is generally kept in
the north Indian community in throughout the India and by those who
live outside the country. It is considered to be the unique as from
dawn to dusk women live without a morsel of food and drop of water
and pray to God for bestowing his husband with long life and
prosperity. This is the uniqueness of the enrich Indian cultural
values which cannot be seen anywhere in the world where women live
for a day without water and food for ensuring long life of their
husband. Karwa Chauth fast or vrat is kept by wife for ensuring
longevity and prosperity of their husband. They worship Lord Shiva
with consort Parvati and their sons Karthikeya and Ganesha along
with the 10 karwas or small earthen pots, filled with pieces of
metals and sweets.
With great gaiety and favor the Karwa Chauth day is usually
celebrated in Indian states-Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra etc.
Dress up in bright hues of colors, women throng the markets for
shopping essential items for the d-day. Roaming around the bazaars,
one senses that the ladies rule the roost. Since she lives without
water and food for the whole day, husband also shows their
generosity in letting their wives for indulging into whims and
choices of theirs. On the roadside, one can glance over the
beautifully decorated earthenware ports, which are called 'Karvas'.
These are needed to be fill with water and after offering 'arghaya'
to moon, ladies drink it. It is one of the most awaited festival for
mehndiwalas as by applying mehendi on palms and feet of ladies they
warm up their pockets. Long line of people, on the eve of Karwa
Chauth, eagerly waiting for applying henna on their palms show their
excitement level towards the festival. Even unmarried girls and
small kids, who are away from the rituals of vrat, also can't stop
themselves from attracting towards the charm of mehendi.
Beautiful bangles with sparkling charm of studded stones add more
glow, glitz in the festive occasion. Exquisite craftsmanship and
aesthetic styles of bangles with stones, hangings, jhumkas,
accentuate the beauty of wearer. Different types of colored bindis,
sindoor with other cosmetic items are decked up in the market with
their appealing charm. As the vrat celebration is unfolded, temples
of cities become the hub of the festive time, as many women make a
choice of completing their fast over there. Women flocking over here
for partaking the Karwa Chauth tale and in night also many couples
visit the temples for giving offerings to moon and completing their
vrat. In today's date, the very old Karwa Chauth festive rituals
have now turned into the activity of full fledged affair of
occasion.
Huge preparations get started a week before the occasion where
women make out a long plan for dressing up on the day. It is
believed that every suhagin should dress up like a bride as it is
considered as the most important festival of her married life.
Whether it is cloth seller, mehendi artists or bangle sellers, huge
women crowd can be seen at every place. These days eating places
also see a massive rush as many husband relish their dear wife with
delicious meal outside the home after their rigorous fast. The
excitement of the fast gets triggered at a new height for those
women who are keeping first fast after their marriage.
